Elmont’s school counselor provides the following services for kindergarten through fifth-grade students:

  • Individual counseling
  • Group counseling
  • Classroom lessons addressing academic, career, and social/emotional development
  • Consultation and collaboration with parents, teachers, administrators, and the overall community

The mission of the Elmont Elementary School Counseling Department is to foster the academic success, career and college readiness, and social/emotional development of all students by providing a student-centered and data-driven comprehensive school counseling program. School counselors employ innovative and varied approaches to address students’ diverse needs, interests, and abilities through school-wide programs, classroom lessons, small group counseling, and individual interventions. They are dedicated to advocacy, collaboration, and championing equity and opportunity for all students. The program empowers all students to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to become responsible citizens who are prepared to make positive impacts on their world now and in the future.

Hanover County Public Schools adheres to the American School Counselor Association National Model, which is a framework for a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program.

Mr. Smith

Ms. Grigsby

Ms. Grigsby is excited to be an Elmont Cardinal! She received his B.S. in exercise science from VCU and M.Ed. in school counseling from Liberty University. Her goal is to make all of the students feel welcome and safe at Elmont. Ms. Grigsby can be reached via email or phone at (804) 365-8100.

Katie Scott

Katie Scott
Positive Behavior Support Coach and Interventionist

Mrs. Scott loves developing and supporting positive systems at Elmont for students and staff. She received her teaching degree from the University of Richmond, her masters in teaching from UVA, her degree to teach ESOL from VCU, and her masters in counseling from VCU.
