The vision of Hanover County Public School’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program is designed to provide exemplary English language instruction in conjunction with grade-appropriate content. Our program strives to provide students with a standards-based, rigorous curriculum that has as its primary goal the development of linguistic and academic competence. To help our students reach high standards and gain proficiency in reading, science, social studies, and math, we work with our classroom content teachers to understand and meet the unique needs of English learners (ELs). The six student performance definitions are as follows: 

• Level 1 - Entering
• Level 2 - Beginning
• Level 3 - Developing
• Level 4 - Expanding
• Level 5 - Bridging
• Level 6 - Reaching
