When your child is absent, we must receive communication within three days of the absence for it to be recorded as excused. Absences that are not substantiated by a note or phone call to the office within three days of the absence will remain unexcused.

At five unexcused absences, we will contact you to develop an attendance plan to resolve attendance concerns.

At seven unexcused absences, an attendance conference will take place to discuss continued attendance concerns.

If attendance does not improve, a referral may be made to School Social Work Services for additional support.

When your child misses five and/or 10 days, an attendance letter will be sent home to inform you of the number of full day absences from school. The attendance letters are for excused and unexcused absences. If you notice any of the listed dates as having a (u) beside them, those are currently unexcused days. We understand that there may be times your child needs to stay at home due to illness. It is very important that you notify the school of the absence. After 10 excused or unexcused absences, medical documentation for absences may be required to excuse future absences.

If you feel that there is something else keeping your child from attending school (anxiety, stress, friendships, etc.), or if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Laura Custalow, family engagement specialist, so that we can work together to support your child. She can be reached via email or by phone at (804) 365-4584.
